Sustainable Food Production - Malaena Medford
Herd animals require a lot of GRASS. We have plenty of bare grasslands with zero herds because they were decimated through the colonization of the Americas. There are billions less animals grazing than there used to be.
What's killing the environment and economy with food is modern animals are being fed grains, which need arable land and that's done by deforestation, then they require many gallons of water to sustain and do not give it back because it goes with the plants or evaporates, then synthetic fertilizers are used and the runoff causes massive pollution and devastation to all animals exposed to it, and to top this all off, this depletes the soil and causes desertification of arable land, which is then abandoned by most mass-monocrop farming companies or left to replenish with synthetic chemicals.
You are only correct in that aspect, but they don't digest what factory farms are feeding them well and it's deficient for their dietary needs. The fault is not meat production, it is inhumane mass production of abused and fattened animals of poor nutrient quality.
Humans need to consume fewer feedlot animals and more pastured animals. This would promote restorative grazing, where animals consume plants, poop and fertilize the land, give water they drink back to the land in the form of urine, spread grass seeds they eat, and till the earth with their hooves. If we pastured animals, it would cause less land destruction and promote a healthy ecosystem.

Crops don't feed PEOPLE, they fatten people just like they fatten and poison livestock!
From a post of mine after researching that crop usage:
In what could be the most preposterous and uneducated move of this era, food guidelines placed grains at the top of the list of foods necessary for health, with a description of benefits. These benefits are not supported, and are, in fact, condemned by rigorous clinical trial.
What's more, the innocent civilians of this nation were conned into using skimmed milk for weight loss purposes. It was assumed that milk caused weight gain, and and that it was particularly the fat at fault.
I present to you, the Farmer's Cyclopedia of Live Stock by Earley Vernon Wilcox and Clarence Beaman Smith. Livestock. Not a manual of nutrition, a manual with explicit instructions on how to use grains and skim milk, either separate or in unison, to fatten livestock.
Page 545, paragraph 1:
"Skim milk is one of the most valuable adjuncts of the farm for fattening swine. Used with corn, kafir corn or any of the common grain by-products an almost ideal ration is formed. Hogs like it and relish rations mixed with it. As a result of five years' work in feeding skim milk at the New York station at Cornell, it is concluded that the most economical returns are secured when the milk is fed with corn meal. The proportion of corn meal to skim milk may be varied without apparently affecting the result, but in no case should the amount of skim milk fed be greater than the pigs can quickly and easily consume."
All grains and skim milk, plus soybeans, are mentioned in this in great detail of the success in fattening different livestock.

I am an active environmentalist, scientist, nutrition specialist, and actively work to restore this planet. This type of nonsense is avoiding the truth of what is really causing the damage, which is crops that feed both these abused animals and the horrifically sick people consuming those nasty plant products.
