Nami, My E-scooter of Choice
I've recently bought myself a Nami e-scooter from The Electric Scooter Shop up in Auckland (let them know Gregg (with 3 'G's) referred you and you will get $50 voucher off the purchase price!) You can click on one of the links below or use 'Gregg' as a coupon code when you purchase from the shop online.
I decided to sell my Landcruiser Prado (that I've had for 20 years) to find a more 'pensioner friendly' way of getting me to the golf course and back. I worked out that the cost of running the Landcruiser was around $4000 per year. I'm picking that the range of the Nami (80 km) and a full charge time of 7 hours, will cost me about a $1 per week to run.
I've rigged up a way to put my golf clubs on the scooter for running around the course and I can leave them in a locker at the club to save me carting them on my run home.
I spent about 2 months researching e-scooters and what might be suitable for me and the first one was going to be the E-Move Cruiser (which would have got me comfortably to the golf course and back all week on one charge!) - however I decided to spend a bit more money and get the Nami Burn-E 2 Viper Pure (hey, I can afford it now I've sold my Toyota!)
I've been having a ball on the Nami (almost more fun than playing golf). You have to take it easy as you learn to ride the thing (especially if you are in your 70th year, like me), but as long as you do that you are going to build some serious skills that will stand you in good stead. Make sure you have good safety gear and obey the road rules and you should be good to go.
While I've been commuting around town, I've been stopped by the (somewhat curious) police. It all went good and since I wasn't breaking any laws I had a good interaction with the officer and he sent me on my way (albeit with a couple of phone calls first to his sources of reference).

Here is Eyebahn with his review of his experience owning the Nami Burn-E in New York for 14 months - I didn't see this until I'd already bought my own Nami, but I have to say (after 1000 km in one month - or thereabouts), I'm extremely confident that I made the best decision.
List of settings and controls for the Nami Burn-E 2 (Viper) Pure
(I'll add to these as I discover more)
- Initiate Cruise Control: While holding throttle at a constant speed press [-] for a few seconds then release throttle. Change speed incrementally by pressing the [+] and [-] as required. (Make sure that USB port is deactivated first.)
- Trip Counter Reset: Select Trip Counter in mode and press [+] and [-] at same time for 1 second.
- USB port activation: Press mode button for 5 seconds - green symbol will display at top of screen.
(Note: When USB port is active driving mode cannot be changed and cruise control will not initiate.)
